NORTHWESTERN 2010 OUTSTANDING SENIORS ANNOUNCED

Eight graduating seniors receiving the Northwestern Outstanding Senior Award are among the award recipients at this year’s Spring Reunion Day Awards Ceremony April 24 at 5:15 p.m. in the Student Center Ranger Room.

A committee selected Lyndsie Davis, Johnathan Elder, Ashton Ghaemi, Kelli Krows, Alyssa Logsdon, Ngalula Mutsipayi, Jake Phillips and Mollie Schoenhals as 2010 Outstanding Seniors.

To apply, graduating seniors had to have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5, have completed at least 60 credit hours at Northwestern, be involved in campus and/or community activities, show promise of future achievement and never have been subject to academic or disciplinary action.  The award, sponsored by the Northwestern Foundation and Student Government Association, includes a plaque and a $100 savings bond.

Outstanding Seniors

Lyndsie Davis

Davis, of Enid, will graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting.    She has served as president of NWOSU Enid Leadership Council and vice president of Phi Beta Lambda and has been on both the President’s and Dean’s honor rolls.

Johnathan Elder

Elder, of Enid, graduated summa cum laude in December with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration.  While at Northwestern, he was on the President’s Honor Roll and served on the Leadership Council and as a NWOSU Scholar Ambassador.

Ashton Ghaemi

Ghaemi, of Broken Arrow, will graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in mass communication.  She has been listed on the President’s and Vice President’s honor rolls and has served as anchor of NWTV 7, staff writer of Northwestern News, president of NWOSU Society of Professional Journalists/Oklahoma Broadcast Education Association and vice president of CORE.

Kelli Krows

Krows, of Seiling, will graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in education.  She has served as president, vice president and secretary of Northwestern Scholar Ambassadors, praise and worship leader of the Baptist Student Union, and captain of the Lady Rangers basketball team, which earned her Academic All-Conference and NAIA Academic All-American honors.

Alyssa Logsdon

Logsdon, of Alva, will graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology.  She was selected for the President’s Leadership Class, listed on both the President’s and Vice President’s honor rolls and has served as president, vice president and secretary of the Biology Club, and historian of Sigma Tau Delta.

Ngalula Mutsipayi

Mutsipayi, originally from Congo-Kinshasa, will graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and a minor in chemistry.  She has been listed on the President’s and Vice President’s honor rolls and has served as vice president of the International Students Association, historian of the Chemistry Club and as an active member of the NWOSU Medical Club.

Phillips, of Alva, will graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in health and sports sciences education.  He has served as Northwestern Scholar Ambassador, Leadership Northwestern Scholar and was selected for the President’s Leadership Class.

Mollie Schoenhals

Schoenhals, of Laverne, will graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration and a minor in Spanish.  She has been on the President’s Honor Roll each semester and had a library intraship last fall.

Other Award Recipients


Elder and Schoenhals along with Katelyn Hall, Sara Hauser, Linn Laughrey, Hilario Trejo Leal and Derek Quinn will be awarded the T.C. Carter Award, presented to the graduating seniors with the highest grade point average.

Other Northwestern students and faculty to be recognized include:  Krows receiving the John F. Kennedy Award, Hauser receiving the Dr. Joe Dollins Merit Award, Clay Leisher receiving the John Ted Meier Student Teaching Award, Shirley Deck and Kayla Fuqua receiving the Psychology Student of the Year Award, Julia Hays receiving the Sabin and Pearl Percefull Scholarship Award, and Karen Sneary receiving the John Sheffield Teacher of the Year Award.
